Quilting

February Itty Bitty Quilt

I did it! I completed the February Itty Bitty Quilt before the end of February. I didn’t follow the directions exactly as given for this mini quilt. I guess I’m not the best at following directions. Often I think I know a better way. Sometimes it works out and sometimes I just serve as a warning to others. 😂 I will let you decide which it is this time.

The directions said to cut out individual pieces to sew together and create the checkerboard background. I decided to strip piece the red and white together so that I wasn’t sewing so many individual pieces together.

Then I sewed the red and white pieced units together to create longer strips of alternating red and white strips.

Then I sewed those strips together to create a block that resembled a checkerboard.

Then I trimmed the edges to create the square. At this point it still looks like the picture in the book with the white around the outside of the block but once I finished the quilt, the look changed a little.

Now the red squares are around the edges and the white is in the middle. I like the way my little quilt turned out. But it might be best to follow their instructions. I’m not sure that my way saved that much time on such a small quilt. Do you ever try to take “shortcuts”? How do they work out? I guess it is one of the ways we learn! 😄
